"Second Helping…"

In case anyone is counting, this is my second contribution to our newest addition to the SERA web site collection of available literary offerings. The initial response to the first installment has been convincingly positive. No one is more surprised by this development than I am. With full intentions to continue to make available quality informative & entertaining moto-journalistic literature (but with absolutely no guarantees either expressed or implied), I take this, the next step, into an uncharted & previously unexplored cyber-territory. I feel somewhat like Dorothy must have felt upon embarking on her journey with no concept of what to expect along the way, with only the encouragement to "Follow the Yellow Brick Road…"

Several people have encouraged me to continue this potentially treacherous journey, but no one is really certain what I may be getting myself into as time goes by. Previous experience with other editorial endeavors tend to support my concern that the time will come when one or more of several possibilities will develop. A deep-rooted desire not to scare anyone convinces me not to list some of those unpleasant possibilities here today. But I digress…

A few 'observations' I made while attending the 2007 SERA Awards Banquet is the originally-intended topic of today's composition. For various reasons (none of which seem like such a large deal in hind-sight) I missed the last couple of Awards Banquets after a long run of attending every annual Banquet since my first one in 1990 (when my old pal Jonny Kemp was SERA Chairman & one never knew precisely what to expect in the way of 'off-the-wall entertainment' during the festivities). I was looking forward to the Big Event this year...

'Observation' # 1: While the Holiday Inn Express definitely is just "across the parking lot" from the Pelham Civic Complex (as advertised by SERA Vice President Ed Bowen), it is also across a somewhat intimidating & possibly substandard wooden bridge a few 'football field lengths' from the Complex Building; not the precise vision suggested by the phrase "across the parking lot…"

'Observation' #2: A locked glass-door entering the hallway of a Holiday Inn Express, while probably a good idea from a security stand-point, apparently is beyond the comprehension of several of our associates who appeared to be confused by the inability to open & enter through the locked door.

'Observation' #3: Said group of confused & bewildered associates peering through said locked glass door at the opposite end of a long hallway makes 'mooning' the group irresistible (from what I understand / without having any actual first-hand knowledge of such an incident…).

'Observation' #4: Through the years, I have heard a few of the female members of our SERA Family make slight variations of the speculation that "Royce Guidry might be a 'nice-looking' guy if he would get his hair cut & trim his beard… " As it turns out, our old pal Royce showed up at the 2007 SERA Awards Banquet sporting a fresh hair-cut & neatly-trimmed whiskers.

It didn't help…
