Lucky for everyone at the Chicken House Hare Scrambles it rained Saturday. The trail conditions were the best of any SERA Hare Scrambles this year. However if it would not have rained the trail and temperature would have been horrible!
The folks at Perry Mountain decided to move the starting area and riding to Stanton, AL. This is only a few miles away, but the change was dramatic. We were treated to a real Chicken House trail directly after the scoring tent.
Speaking of scoring, there was just about a disaster! The sign up computer took a nose dive. It doesn't even boot up! Luckily I had purchased a brand new computer that was in the truck. The sign up crew had to re-enter most of the information, but they did a great job and got the data entered with no problem.
The first lap of the event featured slick trails with really slick roots from the rain. The fields also had muck that bunched up and made moving really fast interesting. The trail dried out and then became almost perfect. The corners all mounded up and you could "slot car" the trail.
If you stayed home thinking the heat would be a killer then you REALLY missed out. The event was well managed and a ton of fun!
